1. For the latest driver, please visit our Printrex 920 Technical Support page at http://www.transact-tech.com/drivers/Printrex-920, and download the installer to your Desktop. 2. For best results, start with the printer powered off. Cancel any Windows installation wizards that start, until you've done the following step: 3. Double-click the installer, and run it to completion. All Printrex drivers are now available to Windows for the next step, Plug-and-Play installation: 4. Connect the printer, and turn power on. The Found New Hardware wizard will start: a) Skip the Windows Update search: b) On the second page of the wizard, select Install the software automatically (Recommended): 5. If you get a Hardware Installation warning dialog, click 'Continue Anyway' 6. Finally, click Finish. The printer is now ready to use.
Windows 7: 1. For the latest driver, please visit our Printrex 920 Technical Support page at http://www.transact-tech.com/drivers/Printrex-920, and download the installer to your Desktop. 2. For best results, start with the printer powered off (If the printer was on and connected, you may see a dialog that says "Device driver software was not successfully installed". Don't worry, just turn off the printer and proceed). 3. Double-click the installer to run it. You should see a User Account Control dialog; reply 'Yes'. Proceed with the installer wizard. 4. During the installation of files to the Driver Store, you may see another confirmation dialog asking, "Would you like to install this device software": Click 'Install'. 5. Once you have finished the Installer, you can connect any Printrex USB printer and the driver will install automatically, even if the printer icon is later deleted from the Printers and Devices folder. 6. Now, connect the printer and turn on power: You will see two Tray notifications, a few seconds apart. The first notification will say, "Installing device driver software", and the second notification will say, "Your device is ready to use". After the second notification, your printer is ready to use. How do I install my Printrex 920 using the Ethernet Interface?
1. Right click on the 920 printer, select Printer Properties, click on the Ports tab, and click the button 'Add Port...'. 2. From the list, select 'Standard TCP/IP Port', then click 'New Port'. 3. Enter the IP address of the printer and continue. 4. Select a Device Type of Generic, and complete the wizard. 5. Close the port-type dialog. Now the driver will print to the network port instead of the USB port, so you may disconnect the USB cable and move the printer to another location on your network.I’m using fanfold paper with form markers, but the printer starts in the wrong place. What driver settings should I use?
In order for the Printrex 920 printer to find the black form marker on the fanfold paper (which is located near the paper perforation), so that the print jobs start printing at the paper perforation, be sure to select “Form Feed” for the “Start-of-job-Control” in the Properties of the 920 driver. To do this, go to your Printers and Faxes/Devices and Printers page, and right click on the Printrex 920, and select Printer Properties. Click on the Preferences button under the General tab, then click the Advanced button, and select “Form Feed” for “Start-of-Job Control” like below, then Click OK, then Apply, and OK. If printing begins a few millimeters from the correct position, use the “Top-of-Form-Position” setting to correct this offset (this is found just above “Start-of-Job Control”). What should I use to clean my Printrex 920 printer? How can I protect and clean the thermal printhead?
![]() My Printrex 920 is printing too light, the colors are faded, or I am getting streaks through my print, and I would like to replace the print head in the field. Where can I order a print head to replace it myself?
Unfortunately, the 920 print head is not a field replaceable part. It is difficult to remove, and the ceramic can easily be damaged during the process, rendering the new print head useless. In addition both the power supply and the printer must be calibrated to the new print head. Power supply calibration exposes the operator to hazardous voltages, and is not to be performed outside of our factory and/or Authorized Repair Center. So unfortunately, if you are experiencing light print, faded color, or streaks throughout your print, you will need to send your Printrex 920 in for repair to have the print head replaced. It is not a part that we sell. When printing to my Printrex 920, I am getting printouts in yellow. What do I need to do?
This indicates that the printer is not setup for color, but instead is setup for the B/W (Black/White) print energy profile. For color printing, the paper must be “installed” inside the special paper box which has an RFID chip. The box has an RFID tag that contains fine-tuning data for the lot of paper shipped. The printer also uses the presence of the tag to identify Color vs. B/W paper. The B/W paper is stacked without a box, but the color paper must be ‘installed’ inside the box. The driver reads this printer status, and sets up the UI based on whether Color or B/W paper is detected. At this time, USB connections will do this automatically. If a USB connection is not active, and you are using an Ethernet connection, the driver will allow you to manually choose Color / BW (right click on the 920 printer in your Devices and Printers page, select Printer Properties, click the Properties button under the General tab, then click the Paper/Quality tab, select Color or B/W, then click Apply and OK, then Apply and OK). If the printer is still printing yellow, it’s possible you have removed the paper from the box; otherwise, there is possibly a problem with the RFID tag on the box(not programmed), or a problem with the printer RFID reader, in which the printer would need to be repaired.I have loaded the paper in my Printrex 920, closed the door, and both latches are closed, but I received a DOOR OPEN” error. What do I do?
The “DOOR OPEN” error on the Status Display indicates a door latch is not closed with the door lowered, so make sure both latches are closed. If both latches are closed, and you are still getting this error, push the latches in toward each other, parallel to the front (like the picture below), and see if this clears the error. If it clears the error, you will see “WARMING UP” in the Status Display, indicating the print head heater is warming up to normal operating range, and the Status Display will eventually show “READY”, indicating that the printer is ready for use. If this doesn’t clear the error, or it clears the error, and then the same “DOOR OPEN” error comes back again, then unfortunately the printer needs to be sent in for repair. After creating a .PDF through Warrior 7/Warrior 8, when I print the .PDF through Adobe Reader, I am getting white lines/gaps between pages, or I am getting red lines throughout the log. How do I fix this?
When in Warrior 7/8, when creating the .PDF file, you will have a .PDF File Configuration Window come up. Set the x resolution to 300 dpi, set the y resolution to 200 dpi, set the width to 8.25”, set the length to 12.5", and select “Continuous printable image – but has gaps in view”, then create the .PDF (just like below). When printing my .PDF through Adobe Reader, my printer isn’t printing the colors correctly. What do I do?
If you go to the Printer Properties of our 920 driver, then select the Preferences button, then the Advanced button, make sure the ICM Method is set to “ICM Handled by Host System”, and make sure ICM Intent is set for “Graphics” or “Pictures” (‘Graphics’ tends to have better color for logs/illustrations; ‘Pictures’ is better for photos). Then, open up the .PDF in Adobe Reader, and select File, then Print, and in the Print dialog window click the ‘Advanced’ button. The Advanced Printer Setup window will come up like below. If ‘Let printer determine colors’ is not checked, CHECK it. Note that if it was unchecked, and you check it, some of the controls will go disabled, like below. Now when you print, your .PDF should print correctly. When printing through Adobe Reader, my .PDF is not printing correctly (getting white lines at page breaks, print is getting cut off on left/right side, print job is getting cut off too early, print is too small or truncated, etc.). What would cause this?
First, for the Color printing scenario. If you are printing .PDF logs, with a file page size that is not a match to the physical paper length, you will have problems. If the .PDF page definition is > 8.26” wide, and you have not included margins, you will have problems. Adobe reader will attempt to scale the content onto the driver page area, preserving the aspect ratio. This will cause whitespace gaps between pages and dropped vertical gridlines. If the margins in the viewed image are ~0.2” or greater on each side, choosing ‘Actual Size’ or scaling of ‘none’ will cause the side areas of the page to be clipped (to the 8.26” printable width), but if that is just side margin, no problem. If the page *width* of the .PDF is <= 8.26”, then the entire displayed width will print, and you only need to worry about matching up the page length. Either ‘Actual size’ (no scaling), or ‘Fit’ will print all the content. If the page *width* is > 8.26, and the length matches driver page length, two things can happen: Selecting ‘Fit’ will scale down the whole page to fit the displayed image (including visible margins) into the width. The side effect will be shrinking the length too, causing gaps between pages. Selecting ‘Actual size’ (or Scaling of ‘None’ ) will drop the page as-is onto the 8.26” wide printable width. If the image includes enough side margin, the actual printable content will be in the printable area, and all is good. If the PDF includes no side margin, then content on the sides will be clipped off. For the Black and White printing scenario, the printable width is 8.53”, so logs that have been rendered to .PDFs with file page sizes of 8.50” wide, print without problem, with no scaling. The entire viewed image fits in the width of the driver page. If ‘Fit to page’ is selected, the length, not the width, is the constraint. If the PDF file page length matches the driver page size selection, scaling has no effect. Also, when viewing the .PDF in Adobe Reader, move your mouse to the lower-left corner of the window, and it will display the logical page size in the lower left-hand corner(for example 8.26 x 11). Whatever the length is, you need to select this as your paper size in the properties of the 920 driver. So if your .PDF is 8.26 x 11, you would go to the Printer Properties of our 920 driver, then select the Preferences button, then the Advanced button, then select “11” long page” as your paper size. Also, while you are in the Advanced options, make sure to set the End-of-Page Control to Contiguous, as this will give you Continuous print, and then click OK, then Apply and OK.
