TROUBLE SHOOTING
Although the Model 5300 printers are designed for reliable, trouble-free operation, problems may occasionally occur which are usually easy to correct. The lists below may offer some easy solutions to the problems. If a problem is still unresolved, then it may be necessary to contact the dealer for assistance.
CUTTER FAILS TO CUT
Make sure the cutter bars are cleaned and lubricated by following the steps below:
Caution:For your safety, disconnect the AC power from the printer before performing any maintenance to the printer!
Caution: Cutter contains very sharp edges. Use caution when working with the cutter assembly!
Items required:
· Nye 362HB Grease
· 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
· Wipe cloths
· Cotton Swab Applicators
· Safety Glasses
1. Unplug the printer and disconnect the data cables. Remove the paper roll from the printer. Remove paper scraps and dust from the thermal printhead area, cutter assembly and paper path.
2. Open the cover assembly exposing the printhead and cutter bars.
3. Carefully wipe off cutter bars (A) with wipe cloth and 70% Isopropyl Alcohol. Apply a small amount of grease (Nye 362HB) to the location shown above at point (A) on both cutter bars.
PRINTHEAD FAILS TO PRINT
Check the paper path (under the printhead, for any paper scraps and dust and remove them). Also try cleaning the printhead by following the steps below:

Cleaning the Thermal Printhead
1. Unplug the printer and disconnect the data cable. Remove the paper roll from the printer.
2. Using cotton swab applicators and 70% Isopropyl alcohol, clean along the heating element only.
Perform a Final Check
1. Position the printer on a workbench.
2. Load paper roll into printer according to the paper roll instructions Paper Loading on page 5.
3. Plug the printer into an AC outlet.
4. Perform a self-test by holding the Paper Feed Button when the power switch is turned ON.
5. Release the Paper Feed Button when the printing starts.
6. Check print quality. If the print quality is substandard, more cleaning may be required.
POWER FAILURE
1. Check the power switch.
2. Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in.
COMMUNICATION PROBLEM
Check the parallel or serial interface and make sure it is secured.
PAPER NOT EXITING
Check for jammed paper and that the paper turns freely on the paper holder by following the steps below:
1. Turn the printer’s power to “OFF”.
2. Open the cover and visually inspect to locate and correct the jam condition.
3. Clear the paper jam. Do not force the paper through the printhead. This will cause damage to the printer.
