Ithaca Series 60 Impact Printer
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Although the Series 60 printers are designed for reliable, trouble-free operation, problems may occasionally occur which are usually easy to correct. The lists below may offer some easy solutions to the problems. If a problem is still unresolved, then it may be necessary to contact the dealer for assistance.
PRINTER HAS NO RESPONSE (NO LIGHTS, NO NOISE)
1. Make sure that the printer ac power cord is plugged in securely on both ends.
2. Check to see if the ac receptacle has power by plugging in another ac powered device such as a lamp.
3. Use the printer power switch and turn it OFF and then ON again.
ERROR CODES
The series 60 printer indicates errors with various blinking patterns on the ALARM light. There are a number of errors that can be displayed. To simplify the codes they are organized into four basic classes:
1. Operator Alarms
2. Failure Alarms
3. Programming errors
4. Status and diagnostics indicators
Operator alarms are errors that can be recovered by the operator without power cycling the printer. If the error is cleared, operation of the printer can continue without information being re-transmitted to the printer by the host. Errors like out of paper or the form being out of position can be recovered without turning the printer off. These errors are the most common and are assigned blink patterns that are the easiest to decode.
Failure alarms are errors that will require the printer power to be turned off to correct. These are things like a print head or knife jam. These are all assigned to a single error code. These errors can be reset by a host reset request, however, in many cases the error will occur again unless the operator clears the obstruction.
Programming errors are errors that should never occur unless there is an application failure or the printer gets out of synchronization with the application. These are things like selecting the journal on a printer with no journal, or sending information to the printer without first selecting a print station. In some cases the host application can not control the presence of line terminators after printer setup sequences. In this case the print with slip clamp open error can be disabled. See the [ESC]y<6> command description.
In addition there are a number of status indicators that may be encountered during diagnostics and application development. These indicators are not error codes but status indications.

[1]This Error condition has been removed. You can force the printer to print with the slip clamp open. This should be avoided.
NO COMMUNICATION TO MAIN PRINTER
1. Check all cable connections for tightness.
2. Check printer configuration for proper settings.
3. Substitute a working printer to verify that the wiring and the main computer is functioning properly.
PRINTS LIGHT
1. Try cleaning the print head as dirt can cause the printer to be light.
2. Replace ink ribbon.
